2009.....still loading

I don't know aboiut you but i am excited and filled with joy unspeakable that the year 2008 is gradually rolling out. For me it has been a very long year, but i have every reason to give God all the glory. Let me tell you some of the few things 'm grateful for.

. JUST YESTERDAY THE YDI'S ANNUAL CAMP MEETING TAGGED CAMP JOSEPH CAME TO AN END, I SERVED AS ONE OF THE PRINCIPAL FACILITATORS FOR CAMP JOSEPH BEING THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT, AND TO GOD BE THE GLORY THE PROGRAMME WAS A BIG SUCCESS.

. Yesterday i handed over successfully to a new national president and was promoted to a fellow and a member of Ydi's hall of faith

. I am grateful to God for the success he gave me as the national president. i travelled to visit many chapters in various universities across the country and suggested to the leadership of Ydi to move the camp meeting from French village badagry to Redeemer's High School, RCCG Camp where it was held this year.

. God supernaturally delivered me from spiritual slumber that would have destroyed my soul

. God helped me to publish my 4th book and gave me inspiration to write four other books.

. the bible says that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the lord. i found my wife this year

. this year i met people i never thought i could meet

. i was blessed financially

. Above all my spiritual life has grown tremendously

reporting from abuja

so happy to be away from lagos, ki u na wen dey live for lagos dey try. the day before i left lgaos i spent about 9hours trying to get back my munm's bus that was seized by VIO. what was her offence? they said that she did not have road worthiness permit. After paying a fine of N5000 and getting the permit for N2500, i asked thier oga if the 2500 was what made her bus road worthy, he couldn'tanswer me intelligently.

What annoyed me eventually was that her tyres had been deflated by them and there was a standbye vulcaniser who pumped the back for N100 each as against the normal price of N50.

MY ARSENAL JERSEY

September 25th, 2008 was a very remarkable day for me not because it was the last Thursday in the month of September, far from it. I clocked 22years that day, and after pressures from my roommates and other Ydi members I organized a party. That was not the only thing I did that day, I found time to visit my friends at the Obafemi Awolowo University Zoo, actually I prefer you call it a forest because there are many more trees than animals in it. Save for the lion and the crocodile, there’s was nothing exciting about the experience. Another thing that day was to indulge myself, I forgot about my budget for the month, walked into a boutique and parted with three shirts and footwear. One of the tops is my Arsenal Jersey; the buy was quite strange considering that ‘m a Liverpool fan. But I have always had great respect for Arsenal Football Club, and in any case I just liked the jersey. But why would I choose to bore you with wardrobe news like I had just bought a Cadillac, if not that a stranger tore my jersey this morning.
I was just returning from my visit to Ydi Uniben Chapter very early on Sunday October 12th, 2008. At about 9am I could say good morning Ore and the inhabitants thereof. For a long time I had always heard people talk about how bad the road in Ore is, but finally time had given me the opportunity to see for myself the result of greed, corruption, insensitivity to the masses and darkness prevalent in a continent that’s referred to as the dark continent. Thanks to Asa, as I savored music from her album via my Mp4. Finally somehow after about two hours of maneuvering through the death trap set by our government, popularly called ‘road’ from Benin to Ore, I boarded another Bus enroute Ile-Ife.
As I sat in the bus in a red top with the inscription Fly Emirates eagerly awaiting other passengers, I suddenly noticed a trader who was selling bibles, a closer look at his goods made me realize that the Bibles were actually the big size version Gideon Bibles- Gideon Bibles are distributed free around the world in a bid to spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. “How much is a copy of your Bible.” The man who obviously thought that finally he had gotten a buyer, quickly responded. The criminal was selling what some persons like himself not in attitude but in biological make-up printed to be distributed for free, at a price of N800.Very quickly I opened the first page of the bible and my curiosity was satisfied, as it was boldly written THIS BIBLE IS NOT FOR SALE.
For the benefit of a doubt, I confirmed that the culprit could read English, and asked him to read same- This Bible is not Sale. It was at that point I assumed the office of an activist, why would one person be selling what was suppose to be free for all? It’s the same reason why the road from Benin to Ore, Lagos-Ibadan Express Way and many other inaccessible roads in Nigeria are not tarred .One criminal Governor, Senator, Local Government Chairman would suddenly decide to use for his family what had been provided for a whole nation. I was angered because it only takes 1000 people like my bible seller to understand why Nigeria is suffering in the midst of plenty.
Already I had seized 1copy of the bible as I continued to explain to him why he deserved to be jailed. By now the bus was already full and the other passengers were begging me to return the bible to the man. I was certain that he would continue in his business if the bible was returned to him, sincerely my desire was to seize the other bibles and also arrest him. In a bid to convince him about the consequence of his actions, I read Malachi 3:8 to him, which shows how God cursed a whole nation because of their greed; eating what God has said belongs to him.
I thought I had finished my responsibility as a responsible citizen and lover of this great nation, as the man walked away from the bus. But I was wrong, because just as our bus stopped by at the nearby gas station, he also came back this time around determined to get back his lost sheep.”You would see what I would do to you if you don’t give me back my bible, infact you must come down from this bus.”
As he began to throw threats I sat calmly in the bus watching events unfold, his next strike wasn’t vocal. He pulled my shirt threatening to get me naked. The result was that my cherished Arsenal Jersey got turn. But again let’s give him some kudos for his last words before the bus zoomed off. He said, “What’s your problem, are you the only educated person here.” Only if time allowed him get the response, obviously for a young man like me still in the pursuit of a first degree, I couldn’t have been the only educated person in the bus. But alas, that drives home the point again, Nigeria is where it is today because of the large number of educated illiterates and spiritual giants who are socially dumb.
We might not have the opportunity to talk sense to woman at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, who is blind to the needs of many Nigerians who live below the poverty line, but very sensitive to the need to raise unsolicited funds for Barack Obama. But we must preach this message of change where we find ourselves in everyday life. Though I did not succeed in arresting Mr. Bible Seller, but I succeeded in creating awareness at the park, that he was selling goods that had been paid for. The psychology of man would stop him from selling those bibles, for the fear of another activist.
Though my jersey is now torn, it reminds me of how every day we tear this country apart either because we want for ourselves what is meant for everyone, or because we refuse to take a bold stand for the truth. Regardless of where you stand it’s time for you to make a change to see this country change. God Bless Nigeria, another way of saying May God punish her enemies. Lest I forget, as I got down at the front of Obafemi Awolowo University, I gave the free bible to the conductor.

BRIDGING THE KNOWLEDGE GAP

stumbled on Ben Carson's Big last week, of course I had seen it before then, but i guess the one i saw is a new print, i sudden fell in love with it though i wanted to buy some other books i bought it too. I have fallen in love with Ben Carson, his story is simply great.

“Every man who knows how to read has it in his power to magnify himself, to multiply the ways, in which he exists, to make his life full, significant and interesting.”
- Aldous Huxley

There’s this story of a former Military administrator in a South-West state who wanted to find out first hand, the true position when confronted with a report that the educational standard in the state had fallen.

The former Military administrator approached a school, on getting there, saw a young boy who he asked, “Who wrote Macbeth?” The boy in fear replied, “It is not me.” And from the boy who did not write Macbeth to the teacher and Principal, “Who promised to fish out who wrote Macbeth.” The search for who wrote Macbeth went on.
The traditional ruler said, “The boys always lie. It is one of them who wrote Macbeth.”
The Military’s administrator’s wife who feared for him asked, “Didn’t I tell you not to take this job. How long have you stayed there that they are already writing Macbeth about you?” The next day the Commissioner of Police announced, “I am sorry about all that happened yesterday. I can assure you that this will not happen again. We have arrested who wrote Macbeth and he confessed to writing Macbeth.”

The story is certainly a fable but yet it can’t be disregarded, I remember mentioning the word SAN, in a discourse with a part three law student and believe me she didn’t know what the word meant. While writing this article I met an international relations student who had no idea of the author of Macbeth. Peter Umez, Author ‘Sammy and the Wallet’ rightly quipped that, “Over 35million Nigerians own GSM handsets, and out of that number most of them have not read, ‘Things Fall Apart.” More people are comfortable sitting close to the TV set than flipping through the pages of a book. “The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man; nothing else that he builds ever lasts. Monuments fall; nations perish; civilization grows old and dies out. After an era of darkness, new races build others; but in the world of books are volumes that live on still as young and fresh as the day when they were written, still telling men’s heart of the hearts of men centuries dead.” (Clarence Day)
My fear for this generation is that our education isn’t skin deep. There is no substitute for learning, by that I mean the urge to continually improve our knowledge base. Sincerely I am afraid for our generation because we are giving our time to frivolities other than improving our intellectual capacity. Books have the ability to open us into a world of great possibilities, its funny how we grow up learning to read and write, and then suddenly think that reading isn’t that important anyway. I agree with Abraham Lincoln, whether you are 18 or 80 the moment you stop learning you are old. The mind is like a muscle, the more it is exercised via reading, studying, meditation and other forms of intellectual work the better it functions.
The barbers and hairstylists in America wanted to have their national convention; they wanted to give their customers a good image of their profession, so they employed a PR to take up the job. The young man went to work immediately; he got a tramp from the slump and took him to the Photo Shop for some snap shots. He also took the tramp for a hair-cut, steam-bath and a face lift. By now the weird looking tramp had been transformed completely. The PRO did not stop there; he took the tramp to the city and got a suit and a pair of shoes.
Finally on the day of the convention, he placed him at the lounge of the hotel to shake the delegates as they came in for the convention. The gambit worked and the convention was successful. At the end of the convention, the Hotel Manager who was obviously impressed, ask the tramp to return the next day for a job placement. The tramp never returned.
The barbers and hairstylists had succeeded in changing his outlook but not his mind. When you give yourself to reading, you avail yourself the opportunity of interacting with superior minds which inevitably makes you a better person. Ben Carson, world’s renowned neurosurgeon was stopped from watching TV regularly as his much compelled him to read two books every week, for which he was also suppose to write a report on .In a space of time Ben had moved from the last spot he occupied while at grade five in school to one of the best kids in his class. He once said that, “Within my grasp, lay the ability to extricate myself from a poverty stricken environment.” Reading is what gives us the power to live beyond limits.

life can be harsh

this afternoon and indeed since the day started i havce been pondering on certian things as i face the realities of disappoinments in certain area of life. I have more questions than answers, not because i do not know what is right or whta the word of God says abouot times like this , No! I just feel too hurt to understand why somethings should happen the way they do.

Okay someone is quick to suggest that i go to pray, but i have. It feels very much like Noah in the ark, regardless of how much Noah prayed , God was't going to get him out of the ark before the end of the 40 days. Sometimes instead of asking God to change a situation maybe we should ask him for grace to understand why we are in the situation. Sincerely its not fun being Gbenga Fatogun at the moment. No wonder T.D.JAKES said that God delivers some people from the situation but delivers some others through the situation.Gush! I am not having fun.

still loading.....LIFE INSPIRING STORIES OF PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE

“Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables.”

It was a day after the May monthly Holy Ghost service of The Redeemed Christian Church of God. I remember my Elder sister talked to me about one of the stories Pastor Adeboye shared during the service . In a short while we were in a discourse about the numerous life inspiring stories of our General Overseer. It was at that moment while doing my laundry that it dawned on me, that compiling these great, profound and inspiring true life experiences of this God’s General would be a great treasure to many generations.

It’s all right to study about how the Red sea gave way for the Israelites to pass through, or how Elijah prayed for the rain to fall, but perhaps what’s more profound is to see and experience these miracles in contemporary times. What is true is that you only attract what you respect. I have listened to PastorAdeboye consistently over the last 12years and have been personally blessed by his use of personal stories and illustrations in the teaching of the Word.

Whether you are like me, or you just stumbled on this treasure, I am quite persuaded that you will find this book very helpful. The stories would definitely encourage, instruct, motivate and empower you. The more time you spend with this compilation of living proofs, the more you’ll be able to live in an atmosphere of amazing miracles.

Happy Reading,

Gbenga Fatogun

1.

One day my driver and I were traveling to Ilorin and there is a bridge not too far from Ogbomosho that is very narrow and in those days it could only take one vehicle at a time. We were traveling on that road and we got to the bridge first, which means every other vehicle must stop, but a trailer was coming from the other side, either the brake failed or the driver didn’t just know what was going wrong.

He was coming straight at us, there was no time to pray and death looked certain, but there was enough time to shout one name (Jesus) my driver and I shouted the same thing, JESUS! And somehow we passed. How? I don’t know up till now. When we got to the other side of the bridge the trailer had gone and we had passed, on a bridge that can’t take two cars. My driver packed and he was shaking, thank God he did not look back because i was shaking too. But by the time he finished shaking I had composed myself, he said, “Daddy what happened’” .I said “God expanded the bridge” he said, “wonderful”. I said, “That’s His name.”

PROMISE REMINDER

“The name of Jesus is a strong tower the righteous run in and they are saved.”

sorry busy do me

It's not easy to be a teacher oo, realyy sorry for not blogging for a while. I also gell ill for about a week, but i'm ok now, you can still send stuffs sha.

SUPER EAGLES HOW FAR NOW?

If you are like me then monday evening was not too remarkable. Expectations where high, the stars were on ground, the moment was right to proof to The elephants of Ivorycoast that we are indeed the giants of Africa.

What on earth happened after Kalou's goal, we still had like 25mins to equalise. For crying out loud what was Yobo thinking about ,was that suppose to be a tackle right in your 18yard box.

Friday is another day, lets rise up to the occasion. Aba you guys play in the Premiership, see how Drogba was raising the morale of his team and even the fans, talk about how Eto hyped his team up. I bow to you guys o.
